人生沒有用不到的經歷

幾天前，某位醫師拿著他寫的文章來問我：
They showed that ----------------------，that 後面一定要用過去式嗎？

我們常被文法書迷惑，其實要用「現在式」或「過去式」不是靠文法，而是靠你自己對文章內容時間上的界定。

They showed that ----------------------。 “That-------------------------” 如果是一個過去觀察到的現象，不是一個公認的事實或定理，那就要使用過去式，例如：
They showed that aspirin reduced the incidence of gastric cancer at 30%. "Aspirin 降低胃癌的發生率" 這種研究報告讓人半信半疑，只是他們 (They) 過去的一家之言，因此用過去式 reduced。

They showed that low-dose aspirin decreases mortality in patients who has had an attack of myocardial infarct.  
他們 (在過去的文章) 顯示低劑量的 Aspirin 可以降低心肌梗塞病人的死亡率。「Aspirin 可以降低心肌梗塞病人的死亡率」已是確定且公認的事實，所以「decreases」應用現在式。請注意「has had」用完成式，代表曾經發生過，用現在式或過去式都不好。

We show that ---------------------------  “that-----------------” 能否用過去式？ 這也要靠你自己去決定！

We show in the current report that the patient recovered well from anti-coagulant therapy. “病人復原” 在 Case report 撰寫之前，因此「recovered」用過去式。

We show in the current report that anti-coagulant therapy reduces mortality in our patients with pulmonary embolism. 在 Case report 撰寫時，你陳述一項臨床經驗，在你的幾個病例中，治療都有效 (事實)，因此可用現在式 「reduces」。
